Sir David Richards was called to the Bar in 1974 (Inner Temple).
He was in practice at the Bar from 1975 to 2003. He was Junior Counsel to the Department of Trade and Industry (Chancery) 1989 to 1992 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1992. He was appointed a deputy High Court Judge in 2001 and a High Court Judge (Chancery Division) in 2003.
He was the Chancery Supervising Judge for the Northern and North Eastern Circuits and Vice-Chancellor of the County Palatine of Lancaster from 2008 to 2011.
He is chairman of the Insolvency Rules Committee and co-chair of the Judicial Committee of the International Insolvency Institute. He was appointed a Bencher of Lincoln’s Inn in 2000 and since 2014 has been chairman of its Finance and General Purposes Committee. He is a General Editor of Buckley on the Companies Acts (14th ed.).
