Upper age limit for jury service

|General|Guidance

The government launched a consultation on raising the upper age limit for jury service in England and Wales.

The current age limit is 70 years old, which may currently exclude many people who would be competent to sit as jurors.

The move is based on the principle that more people should be encouraged to play a part in the criminal justice system. It also takes account of the fact that more people are living longer, healthier lives and may wish to serve as jurors.
