Particulars of Contempt pursuant to Paragraph 13 of the Practice Direction: Committal for Contempt of Court – Open Court dated 26th March 2015

In the Crown Court at Northampton
Case No. T2014 7224

His Honour Judge Smith

George Johnston

On Friday 15th May 2015 His Honour Judge Smith sentenced the Defendant, George Johnston, to a term of imprisonment for 9 years in respect of his conviction for having, on 10th October 2014, wounded Mr Mark Wilcoxson with intent to do him grievous bodily harm. Having been sentenced, and before leaving the dock, Mr Johnston leant over and slapped his co-defendant about the head in a violent gesture – so provoking disruption and disorder in the court that necessitated police attendance. Mr Johnston admitted that his actions amounted to a contempt in the face of the court and offered, through his counsel, his apologies. Mr Johnston was sentenced to 6 months immediate imprisonment to run consecutively to the substantive sentence imposed.
