Senior District Judge (Chief Magistrate of England and Wales) Howard Charles Fraser Riddle retires with effect from 1 October 2016.

Senior District Judge (Chief Magistrate of England and Wales) Howard Riddle (69) was admitted as a Solicitor in 1978 and elected as an Honorary Bencher of Gray’s Inn in 2012. He was appointed an Acting Metropolitan Stipendiary Magistrate in 1993 and a Metropolitan Stipendiary Magistrate in 1995 (now known as District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts). He was a Member of the Sentencing Advisory Panel from 2004 to 2010 (Vice Chairman from 2007 to 2010), appointed as the Senior District Judge (Chief Magistrate of England and Wales) in 2010 and a Member of the Editorial Board for Blackstone’s Criminal Practice from 2012 and of the Criminal Law Review from 2012.
