High Court Judge Appointment (Queen’s Bench Division): Cockerill

The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of Ms Sara Elizabeth Cockerill QC to be a Justice of the High Court with effect from 1 November 2017 consequential to the retirement of Sir Ross Cranston.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Ms Sara Elizabeth Cockerill to the Queen’s Bench Division.

Sara Elizabeth Cockerill, aged 48, will be known as The Honourable Mrs Justice Cockerill. She was called to the Bar (L) in 1990 and took Silk in 2011. She was appointed as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2016.

Sir Ross Cranston FBA, aged 69, was called to the Bar (G) in 1976, took Silk in 1998 and was elected a Bencher in 1998. He was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1991 and a Recorder in 1997. He was Solicitor General for England and Wales from 1998 to 2001. He was appointed a Judge of the High Court (Queen’s Bench Division) in 2007 and Judge in Charge of Administrative Court in 2016.
