Death in Service: Mr Justice Andrew Gilbart

It is with great sadness, that the death in service is announced of Sir Andrew Gilbart.  Sir Andrew was appointed to the High Court Bench, assigned to the Queen’s Bench Division, in 2014 after a distinguished career at the Bar. He took Silk in 1991 and was elected a Bencher of the Middle Temple in 2000. He was appointed as a Member of the Restricted Patients Panel (Mental Health Review Tribunal) in 2000, a Circuit Judge and Deputy High Court Judge in 2004 and a Member of the Lands Tribunal in 2006. He was appointed a Senior Circuit Judge and the Honorary Recorder of Manchester in 2008 and was the Resident Judge at Manchester Crown Court from 2008 to 2013.

On behalf of the entire Judiciary, the Lord Chief Justice wishes to record his admiration for Sir Andrew’s outstanding contribution to the administration of justice, which has been so tragically cut short.
