Court of Appeal: Retirement of Lord Justice Pitchford

Lord Justice Pitchford retires as Lord Justice of Appeal with effect from 29 March 2017.

Sir Christopher John Pitchford (70) was called to the Bar (M) in 1969, took Silk in 1987 and was elected a Bencher in 1996. He was appointed a Recorder in 1987, a Deputy High Court Judge in 1996, a Judge of the High Court (Queen’s Bench Division) in 2000, a Presiding Judge (Wales and Chester Circuit) from 2002 to 2005 and Director of Training (Criminal Group) for the Judicial Studies Board from 2006 to 2010. He was a Member of the Sentencing Guidelines Council from 2006 to 2010 and appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal in 2010, when he was sworn as a Privy Councillor.
