The Queen has appointed James Neville Townsend to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable David Lidington MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.

The Lord Chief Justice has deployed him to the Western Circuit, based at Plymouth Combined Court with effect from 22 January 2018.

Notes to editors

James Neville Townsend, aged 60, will be known as His Honour Judge Townsend. He was called to the Bar in 1980. He was appointed as a Recorder in 1999.
