Circuit Judge Appointment: Phillips QC

The Queen has appointed Simon Benjamin Phillips QC to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Michael Gove MP, and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd.

The Lord Chief Justice has deployed him to the North Eastern Circuit, based at Teesside Combined Court Centre with effect from 24 November 2015.

Simon Benjamin Phillips QC, aged 54, will be known as His Honour Judge Simon Phillips QC. He was called to Bar (I) in 1985. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2002 and served as a Fee Paid Immigration Judge at the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal (now know as a Tribunal Judge in the First Tier Immigration and Asylum Tribunal) between 2006 and 2015.
