Circuit Judge Appointment: Fitton

The Queen has appointed Michael David Guy Fitton QC to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Chris Grayling MP.

The Right Honourable The Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, has deployed him to the Wales Circuit, based at The Crown Court at Cardiff with effect from 30 March 2015.

Michael David Guy Fitton QC, aged 57, will be known as His Honour Judge Fitton QC. He was admitted as a Solicitor in 1981 and called to the Bar (G) in 1991. He served as a Fee-paid Legal Member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal (England) between 1995 and 1999, was appointed as an Assistant Recorder in 1999, a Recorder in 2000 as a Fee-paid Legal Member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal (Wales) in 2012 and as a Fee-paid Judge of the First-tier Tribunal, assigned to the Health, Education and Social Care Chamber (Mental Health) in 2014. He will continue to serve on the MHRT (Wales) following his appointment to the Circuit Bench.
