The Queen has appointed District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts) Jonathan Simon Bennett to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Michael Gove MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd.
The Lord Chief Justice has deployed him to the Midland Circuit, based at Derby Crown Court with effect from 16 November 2015.

District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts) Jonathan Simon Bennett, aged 58, will be known as His Honour Judge Jonathan Bennett. He was admitted as a Solicitor in 1982. He served as a fee-paid Legally Qualified Panel Member of the Appeal Tribunal (now known as a Tribunal Judge of the First-tier, Social Entitlement Chamber) between 1996 and 2003, served as an Acting Provincial Stipendiary Magistrate (now known as a Deputy District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts)) between 1998 and 2003 , was appointed as a District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts) in 2003 and was appointed as a Recorder in 2008.
