Appointment of the President of the Social Entitlement Chamber, of the First-tier Tribunal: Aitken

The Senior President of Tribunals, the Right Honourable Lord Justice Sullivan has appointed John Russell Aitken to be the President of the Social Entitlement Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal.

He will take up post with effect from 2 June 2014.

Notes to editors

John Russell Aitken, aged 57, will be known as Judge Aitken. He was called to the Bar (G) in 1984. He was appointed as an Assistant Recorder and then a Recorder in 2000, as a Fee-paid Immigration Adjudicator in 2002, as a salaried Immigration Adjudicator in 2003 (becoming Designated Immigration Judge in 2005), as a Deputy Judge of the Upper Tribunal, Administrative Appeals Chamber in 2009, and as a Deputy Chamber President of the Health, Education and Social Care Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal also in 2009.
