The Lord Chief Justice has announced the appointment of The Honourable Mr Justice William Davis as the judicial lead for youth justice in England in Wales. Mr Justice William Davis will chair a committee to provide judicial oversight of and co-ordination for matters relating to youth justice in the criminal courts.

Mr Justice William Davis was called to the bar by Inner Temple in 1975. He practised in Birmingham between 1976 and 2008. He was head of St Philips Chambers from 2004 to 2008. He became a Recorder in 1995 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1998. He was appointed as a Senior Circuit Judge and Resident Judge at Birmingham Crown Court and the Honorary Recorder of Birmingham in 2009. He was a member of the main board of the Judicial Studies Board from 2005 to 2007. He was Course Director for Regional/Circuit Criminal Seminars from 2007 to 2012. He has been a member of the Sentencing Council since April 2012. In May 2014 he became a High Court Judge. He has been Director of Criminal Training for the Judicial College since June 2014.
