The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of Miss Maura Patricia McGowan QC to be a Justice of the High Court with effect from 1 October 2014 on the retirement of Mr Justice Field.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Miss McGowan to the Queen’s Bench Division.

Notes for editors

Miss McGowan, 57, was called to the Bar by the Middle Temple in 1980 and took Silk in 2001. She was appointed a Assistant Recorder in 1997 and as a Recorder in 2000. She is approved to sit as a deputy High Court Judge.

Mr. Justice Field was called to the Bar by the Inner Temple in 1977 and took Silk in 1987. He was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1995, as a Recorder in 1999 and a judge of the Queen’s Bench Division of the High Court in 2002.
