New Judicial Civil Robe
Last July the Lord Chief Justice announced reforms to simplify judicial court working dress in England and Wales. The changes, which include the introduction of a new civil gown, are due to come into effect on 1 October 2008.

Mr Justice Stanley Burnton appointed as a Lord Justice of Appeal
The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of Mr Justice Stanley Burnton as a Lord Justice of Appeal. The appointment will take effect from 21 April 2008. He will continue in his role as Head of Modernisation, IT and Estates. He has also been appointed as one of three judicial representatives on the new Board of Her Majesty’s Court Service.

Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers appointed as senior Lord of Appeal in Ordinary
The Queen has been pleased to approve that The Right Honourable the Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, be appointed Senior Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, in succession to the Right Honourable The Lord Bingham of Cornhill KG, who retires on 30 September 2008.
